The National Rifle Association’s Basic Pistol Shooting class is designed to teach you the knowledge, skills, and attitude needed to safely own a handgun. This is a basic course and no prior experience is needed.

This course runs approximately 8+ hours and includes both classroom work and range time. The class is conducted at our facility located in Halifax, Va. Students will learn how to shoot their revolvers and/or semi-automatic pistols. Students will also learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol nomenclature and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range safety rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and additional opportunities for skill development.

Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting Handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules Brochure, Basic Practical Rocker and Flyer, Basic Firearm Training Program Brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program Booklet, Concealed Carry Holster Guide, Basic Pistol Student Exam, and Basic Pistol Course Certificate. Students will take a written exam and complete several live fire demonstrations to successfully complete the class.

The Basic Pistol Course certificate may be used to apply for a Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit.
We offer “ladies only” as well as co-ed classes for the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting class. The cost for this class is $85.00 per person, and class size is limited to 10 students. Payment is required at the time of registration for this class.

For this class, students will need the following items:
IF YOU ARE THINING OF BUYING A GUN FOR THIS CLAS WAIT UNTIL AFTER THE CLASS. HANDGUN SELECTION IS COVERED DURING THE CLASS AND WILL SVE YOU MONEY. No Pistol No Problem, we have practice pistols for you to use FREE of charge.

• A functional, reliable handgun – please make sure that the gun is safely unloaded when bringing it to class.
• 50 rounds of ammunition for the above handgun.
• Eye and ear protection.
• A handgun cleaning kit
• A notebook and pen for note-taking
• Weather & range appropriate clothing and footwear. Class is conducted outside and the range is gravel surfaced.
• Drinks, snacks and lunch as needed.

If you do not have the above noted equipment, please contact us prior to registration. We may be able to provide some of these items to you for your use during the course.
